With high ceilings and large sash window, we made use of the room’s features to preserve the natural light. The positioning of the island forms a focal point without dominating the space. This off-centre placement cleverly guides you around the kitchen while sweeping you into the dining room. The airy layout even allows room for a large, informal dining table beneath the kitchen window. The result is a perfect place to idle away the morning, drinking in the garden views.

Thoughtful Details

Handmade cabinetry, fitted into the room’s recesses, reflect the natural light while providing optimal storage space. Similarly, appliances slot into their surroundings without distracting from the architectural features of the period property. The glazed wall units pay homage to the dining room’s plate dressers, and help forge the kitchen’s link to this newly opened up room. The cool, blue paint tones used across the cabinets give a clean, crisp finish that evoke a period feel. In contrast, the use of deep, inky blue paint anchors the island to the oak floor, while the pale, grey flecked, white quartz worktop radiates light to complete this dramatic yet classical space.

Materials

The reflective prowess of Cosentino‘s Silestone Lagoon grey-white quartz is unassumingly supported by Farrow & Ball’s Parma Grey and Stiffkey Blue paint. Custom cabinetry finished off with satin brass handles and knobs by Armac Martin completes this innovative, modern classical kitchen.
