Modern Farmhouse Kitchen
Who said farmhouse kitchens have to be twee? Our modernist take on the bucolic combines the conventional with the contemporary. Helping tie together a new extension with an existing agricultural conversion, aspects of this shaker inspired modern farmhouse kitchen would make any urbanite feel at home.
Location: Abergavenny
Scope: Kitchen design & build, building work
Size of space: 275 sq.ft
Type: Farmhouse
Functionality
With low ceilings and exposed oak beams, we’ve kept the walls free of unnecessary cabinetry. Keeping all units at waist height ensures an openness that flows into the adjoining extension while the choice of colour and texture helps retain the snugness this farmhouse kitchen demands.
Thoughtful Details
A downdraft extractor fan allows the hob to be placed in front of the window, affording uninterrupted views outside. This low profile approach continues around the kitchen aided by the installation of integrated, under-counter fridge drawers. These are easily accessible by solid-brass forged draw pulls. White granite worktops brighten the room and the continued use of this on the island adds to the lightness. To infuse warmth, the addition of a handmade, wooden worktop to the island surface creates a striking split-top counter. In contrast to the flagstone floor, this use of oak compliments the existing joinery while providing an inviting seating area.
Materials
Queslett burnished brass cup pull handles by Armac Martin embellish the custom made cabinets which have been painted in Puck green by Little Greene Paint and Paper. The marriage of white colonial granite with custom oak worktop complete this modern farmhouse kitchen.
